Birmingham: The Third Test of the series is back after a short break. Scheduled for tomorrow, the Indian Cricket Team is ready to take on the England Team. Fresh from two successive Test victories over the touring team, Team England will look at every opportunity to make this series a win-win situation for them.
Edgbaston – The Stadium:
The Indians were greeted with enthusiasm by the Chilly English weather. The Edgbaston stadium was revamped recently, with a whooping cost of 30 million pounds. Continuous supervision of the pitch is taking place, and it is likely that the surface will turn out to be smooth. However, Edgbaston is known for its slower wicket, which is likely to cause worries for players like Suresh Raina. Its pitching condition is likely to assist spinners, but Indians without Zak and Bhajji, have to cope up with the available players.
India finds itself amidst injuries and setbacks. The absence of Ace spearhead Zaheer Khan (who is unavailable for 16 weeks around) is a major loss for the Indian side. Spinner Harbhajan Singh and batsman Yuvraj Singh too are unavailable for the Third Test. Yuvi’s absence comes as a blow, as he has performed well in the last Test, and his left arm spin would be a boon for the wicket at Edgbaston!!! And this leaves the Bowling attack with just the regulars Ishant Sharma, Praveen Kumar, and the newly included Piyush Chawla. And we have our legendary players Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman to put runs on the scoreboard. Let’s hope that our Little Master scores that eluding century and cheers Indians. Tactful partners Laxman and Dravid have proved themselves beyond all mundane compliments. And Dravid is likely to score his next century, which should save India from further collapse. Skipper MSD, Abhinav Mukund, Suresh Raina are all struggling to find their rhythm in the English conditions. The only bright spot in this gloomy picture is the return of ace batsman Virender Shewag. His return is bound to add bundles of joy and confidence to the Team, and we hope that he partners with his favourite Tendulkar and plays some classic Cricket.
Team England, on the other hand is pretty much the same, with the only difference being the inclusion of Ravi Bopara, in the place of injured Jonathan Trott. Bopara looks forward to the game very much. The other players are the same, with James Anderson, Stuart Broad; Graeme Swann leading the bowling attack. Kevin Pietersen, Ian Bell are some of the key batsmen. Tim Bresnan, one of the finest players of England, has contributed with his all-rounding ability. Skipper Andrew Strauss, is looking forward to a replay of the victories at Lord’s and Trent Bridge.
So, finally Indians are in a position to defend their Top spot and prove what it takes to be the number 1 – Prodigious skills, Perseverance and Power. We hope they win this Test match by a huge margin and make up for lost matches. Go Team India!
