IPL to blame?

Considering the current set of events – Indians facing their most humiliating series in years, who is to blame? Is the cast rich extravaganza IPL also a culprit?

IPL to blame?

IPL to blame?

The large sum of money involved in the IPL is definitely testing the loyalty of the players. There are players like Chris Gayle, Lasith Malinga etc who have preferred IPL over their national team.

What we had noticed was that the IPL commenced just two weeks after the memorable World cup triumph. It was a time when the players started complaining about burnouts. But the high amounts of cast involved tempted the players into playing.

That seems to have contributed heavily into the current fitness and forms of players. Many players – Yuvraj Singh, Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag, Zaheer Khan etc had played IPL matches only to be injured in the process.

The IPL must not be held in such crucial phases!!! It clearly must be held at a time when there are no overseas assignments in the near future.  Zaheer Khan is a bowler who would have made a large difference. He had just bowled a few overs in the series and had already bagged two wickets. Gautham Gambhir and Virender Sehwag opening pair had been terribly missed. Fatigued players playing in the IPL has led to banes like loss of form and injury concerns. Sachin Tendulkar, who is playing after a few months, is unable to rise to the English challenge. He has failed to make a mark. On the other hand, it is to be noted that only Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman have been consistent. It can be attributed to the rest that they have had.

The players need appropriate time tables. The greed possessed by the BCCI is becoming intolerable. A number of tours in a short while is not a good sign. Players need rest.

The IPL, as stated before, is a literal thorn in the flesh. The experts like Sunil Gavaskar also pin point the IPL as a likely cause for the Indian failure.

The players ought to prefer the national team instead of the IPL. It is ok to play at the end of a cricketing season but not in between when their presence means so much to the team. It is not worth losing a player due to an IPL injury.

The BCCI needs to look into the matter immediately. IPL, which was meant to entertain, has indirectly led to the opposite! The current series is something every Indian abhors. Things need to change! And fast.
