New Delhi: Undeterred by the criticism over a long tournament in its fourth year, the fifth edition of the highly popular Indian Premier League (IPL) will begin on April 4, 2012 and conclude on May 27, 2012.
The tournament will feature 74 matches, over a period of 54 days. The match schedule will be announced soon.
The IPL 5 has been scheduled after India’s return from their tour of Australia and South Africa’s tour of New Zealand in March. There are several series like West Indies tour of England, Australia tour of West Indies, and also Pakistan to play Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, that are expected to mix up with IPL 5 and that may result to absence of some international players.
It is one of the most successful sporting event in the world after world cup. Marketers invest heavily in their promotional campaign and accordingly try to fully utilise it. The short nature, 20 overs, and less time consuming factor are making it highly popular in this continent.
Chennai Super Kings had won the fourth edition after beating Royal Challengers Bangalore in the final.
