India climbed a place to No. 2 in the Reliance ICC Test rankings on Monday following South Africa’s loss to Australia in the second Test at Johannesburg.
India, who take on the West Indies in the third Test at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday, have 117 rating points, one more than South Africa, who have dropped to third. A win in the final Test will take India to 119 rating points.
South Africa were placed second with 119 points before the start of the 2-Test series against Australia and could have narrowed the margin with top-ranked England had they won the series 2-0. Instead the 1-1 draw has cost them crucial rating points.
England lead the rankings with 125 rating points.
