Test your cricket knowledge of the greatest Test rivalry – The Ashes

England travel down under to face Australia in the 2017/18 Ashes series in the hope that they can retain the Ashes urn that they successfully won on home soil in 2015. Australia on the other hand will be looking to repeat their heroics of the 2013/14 series in which the Aussies completed a whitewash of England, winning by 281 runs in the final test at Sydney, to complete a 5-0 series win.

With the England squad selection being criticised and described as the weakest batting line-up for a long time, the Ashes odds of another whitewash in Australia will be greater than usual. After Australia announced their squad, many pundits gave England more hope of a win but the bookies are still favouring a comfortable victory to the home team in cricket betting.

If Australia manage to win the series, it shall give them a lead overall in Ashes victories, as currently both national teams are on 32 wins, with 5 draws occurring since the first test series back in 1882/83. Should England capitulate and get whitewashed by Australia, it will be the fourth time in Ashes history that Australia have managed to inflict such an embarrassing defeat on the English.

The player of the 2015 series for England, Joe Root has made the step up from vice-captain to captain, taking over from Alastair Cook, and Root will be looking to lead his country to glory, overcoming their underdog status in the process. There is no doubt that Root will be looking to his more experienced team mates like Cook, Broad and Anderson to help retain the urn, but with uncapped players like Crane, Foakes and Craig Overton in the squad, England fans are fearing the dreaded whitewash.

As the first test is set to start on the 23rd November we have created a quiz for you to test your Ashes knowledge.
