The Indo-Australian Test Tour – Is it Really Going to Happen?
The way terrorists are bombing all over the India, it seems that no city is safe. And this instantly reminds us of the 20 minutes blackout at the Eden Gardens at the IPL match when there were VVIPs, such as Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi present. Well, I am not raising these concerns myself. These are the questions doing rounds on the internet blogs.
You may recall that the Champions Trophy scheduled to be held in Pakistan has been postponed to October or later owing to the blasts that rocked Lahore. To prove that there is harm in touring Pakistan, the PCB approached South Africans to play on their grounds only to receive a NO as an answer. Not only the proteas, the Sri Lankans also do not consider Pakistan safe for their players as of now. The PCB also approached West Indies to play just two ODIs in November 2008. PCB is still waiting to for the reply from the Indies.
On the other hand, the BCCI is seemingly overconfident publishing press releases all over saying that the safety of players is of utmost importance to India. But how true is this? Let us take a look. Just ten days before the Australian team was to land in Delhi, several bombs went off across the capital city. And the reaction of BCCI is, “Everything is under control.”
Fine! The first test match of the Indo Australian series is scheduled to be held in Bangalore, where several explosions ripped off the normal life on July 25th. Even before the BCCI could reply to the Australian cricket board, a series of bombs went off across Jaipur and adjacent cities. This throws not only Australia, but also England into the safety concerns of their players. England is also set to tour India later this year.
If you can see this year’s cricket schedules of the Pakistan, you will not notice any international game that was held there after the blasts. And with the overconfidence of the BCCI, is India also following the same route? If there is no urgent change in the security arrangements, venues and schedules of the tour, sources say that Australia may well pull out from the series, leaving all the Indian cricket fans in depression. So what is your action plan, BCCI?
