ICC Champions Trophy 2009: New Zealand Team Profile
Skipper Daniel Vettori should be disappointed with the drubbing at the hands of India at home earlier this year in the Tests and ODI series but will breathe a sigh of relief with some ex-ICL recruits joining the national ranks.
The Kiwis have a lot of depth in the batting department with Jesse Ryder, Ross Taylor, Martin Guptill and Brendon McCullum forming the thrust.
Their all-rounders should have a major impact. Jacob Oram is in a league of his own, especially in the limited overs format and Ryder is no mean alternative either. The only worry Vettori might foster is the lack of quality spinners in the side apart from himself. However, with a certain Shane Bond to shake it up with the new ball, the captain might want to think too long and hard. Bond may be on the wrong side of 30 but the cricketing fraternity will not doubt his ability to generate some serious pace with both the old and the new cherry.
Off-spinner Jeetan Patel does have the ability to tweak it a bit but teams like India and Sri Lanka will not lose sleep over him.
When it comes to ODI cricket, the Kiwis do make a complete package, though their performance may not always reflect that.
