India recently celebrated its 75 years of cricket. It has been 75 long years of learning the rope, the tricks of trade, adapting to the newer version of the game, producing great names, controversies and great wins for the side. To begin with, the journey of the Indian side in the international arena was slow; it took them almost twenty years to get their first win, and even further for their first series win.
Touring West Indies was a taboo word, India almost never won there, as was the case with England. But Ajit Wadekar changed all of that. Then came the World Cups, where after the first two performances, it would have been difficult to believe that the Indians could even think of getting into the knock-outs let alone win it. Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev captured the imagination of the people during these times and the fans looked up and worshipped these cricketers.
After the initial reluctance towards the T20Is, India went into the 2007 edition of the ICC World T20 with just one T20I under their belt and won a thrilling finals against Pakistan. IPL captured the imagination of the crowd and today is one of the top five valued sporting events in the world!
All this has been made possible due to all the players who have represented the side over the years leading up to the current Indian squad. It would be fair to say that the Indian team currently is on the verge of something big; it is a side which is led by one of the best ever Indian captains, and a side that consists of a fine blend of experience and youth.
Below is a list of the current Indian squad and the profiles of all the players which we will keep updating over time. If you have any particular player that you want to know about or are particularly fond of, write in to us, and we will cover that player as well. Happy Reading!
